GENEVA, 19th March, 2018 (WAM) — The UAE said that it had left no stone unturned to build a conducive environment for promoting tolerance and making it part and parcel of the daily practices of all people and entities, including government institutions.Speaking before the 37th Session of the Human Rights Council’s panel discussion on promoting tolerance, inclusion, unity and respect for diversity, Rima Al Sharji, Second Secretary at UAE Mission in Geneva, said the UAE, based on its moral values, has adopted a policy aimed at promoting the culture of peace and tolerance to be implemented by the Ministry of Tolerance, established in 2016 for boosting ties with people from all cultural and religious backgrounds and building human relationships with them based on equality and respect for human rights.”This is besides correcting the misconceptions about religions that might cause social disputes, fighting stereotyping, respecting gender equality and eradicating discrimination across the world,”she added.Al Sharji also thanked the participating experts for their role in promoting tolerance and fighting racism in light of the rise of extremist political parties and groups in a number of countries.She pointed out that, unfortunately after 25 years from Durban Declaration and Programme of Action (DDPA), hatred based on all racist motives, some of which are based on stereotyping, is still growing and more frequent than ever. This is despite the recurrent calls issued by the UN bodies for taking actions and effecting suitable mechanisms for fighting racism and apartheid and promoting coexistence, dialogue and tolerance.She noted that this year the debate on discrimination was being marked in an atmosphere of intolerance against migrants.
