ABU DHABI, 1st April, 2018 (WAM) — In partnership with the Ministry of Tolerance, the US Embassy is hosting the Reginald Golden Singers – a musical group affiliated with the world-renowned Howard University Gospel Choir. In the UAE, the singers are conducting a series of concerts, lectures, workshops, and master classes, with a focus on gospel music as a uniquely American art form. Born in African-American churches in the United States, gospel music has come to play a much larger role in US society both as an art form and as a key part of American culture and history, influencing the development of soul, R&B, and rock and roll music globally.Abdullah Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Acting Executive Director of the National Tolerance Programme, highlighted the significance of the directions issued by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, to host this historic group which provides a platform to showcase the US and the UAE’s shared commitment to tolerance, as music has the ability to express values that words alone cannot. He noted that music provides a realistic and personal touch to ideals that reach all ages. Tolerance grows when people learn from one another and understand each other’s cultural backgrounds and differences, he said.US Embassy Charge d’Affaires Steven C.
